Is It Better To Depend On Electricity For Your Turntable; Or Would Batteries Work Better?
There are probably very few houses or a place of work where there is no electricity. In the developed world, this is absolutely unheard of. In the developing world, you might still here of pockets of villages and towns where electricity is still a luxury that cannot be afforded by all. In these places, you might find a record player or a tape recorder that is battery operated. In some houses, you could also find an instrument that has to be wound up to be played. These are quite ancient, and you would have to pay a pretty packet for such a gramophone (record player with built in speakers), as it is called since this is an antique.
Is The Current Dependable?
Well, if you are in a country like India, Pakistan or Bangladesh – this is quite a reasonable question to ask. On the contrary, if you are in a place like Sweden or Japan and you asked a question like this; chances that people would look askance at you. It would be quite ridiculous, to say the least! Basically, you need a stable current to operate your turntable. It is very essential to have this always. If you are not able to ensure that the current does not vary too much, it would be a good idea to go in for cells or batteries. Therefore, before making a decision on the kind of energy that you would like to use, please think of the nature of current that you are usually able to harness in the place in which you have housed the instrument.
How Many People Have Access To Your Turntable?
This is a very important question. If you are going to keep the machine in a common place where every Tom, Dick or Harry can waltz in and operate the machine; there is every likelihood that you are going to end up with junk in little or no time. This is what happens when everybody in the vicinity has access to your turntable. Please be selective about allowing people to operate it. Don’t give access to everyone and then feel sorry that it is in a terrible and irreparable state.
When you decide that you want to embellish your house and its appearance by having something as precious and as old-fashioned as a turntable, please think of whether you need to use electricity or good old batteries to sustain your entertainment needs.
